Twiddle

WEDNESDAY 11.11. Twiddle 9PM/$FREE

Twiddle (Vermont based) has started a frenzy on both coasts with complexities that conjure up Coltrane, Ranglin, and Zappa, yet still embracing the roots of Jam traditions. Finally a group of musicians who not only understand climactic build and release, but deliver their intricate compositions night after night to jazz purists and screaming fans, all at the same time. A true cross-over band where parents and their college-age children all go to the same show. Twiddle is a sound that defiantly weaves and dodges through genres. It's three-dimensional music. You can see it from all sides, and even serve it to your guests. It's Twiddle. Tasty.

Twiddle:
Ryan Dempsey, ivories, vocals
Brook Jordan, skins, vocals
Zdenek Gubb, low end, vocals
Mihali Savoulidis, axe, vocals

Jen Korte & The Loss w. Special Guests

THURSDAY 11.12. Pete Lewis and Jen Korte & The Loss w. Ramaya and Jami Lunde 7:30PM/$7

After selling out the Walnut Room for their Denver CD release party, Jen Korte and her band, The Loss, will do the Boulder version November 12, at the b.side.

Recent media coverage for Korte has included a cover story in OutFront and a 1500-word feature in Westword. Among the reviews:

“… it's a work of sheer beauty that utterly consumed us the first time we heard it.” Dave Herrera, Westword

“An unbelievable record. It’s brilliant.” Jake Schroeder, KQMT

“Jen Korte is not a thousand feet tall, but her voice makes you believe that she is.” Dave Preston, Colorado Music Buzz

“Many of Korte's songs have an anthemic structure, and the dual voices of Korte and DeNicola blend into a heartfelt wail of fury and anguish …” Candace Horgan, The Denver Post
Korte's weathered, world-weary voice (reminiscent of Rachael Yamagata and Lucinda Williams), teamed with harmonies from Jessica DeNicola and the band’s evocative use of instrumentation, create a late-night listen-by-yourself album that does not neatly fit into any genre. As Korte describes it, "a little bit of makeout music, a little bit of crying music, and a little bit of rock."
Originally from a small Texas town outside of Austin where she had a band, Korte relocated to Denver four years ago where she has established herself as a formidable presence in singer/songwriter and indie folk circles

IN THE EVENING: Vox Feminista AT NIGHT: Wagatail Presents Lo Tyde

FRIDAY 11.20. IN THE EVENING: Vox Feminista 6:30PM/$$Sliding Scale

Naked women in gasmasks. Singing swine. Shoe throwing dissenters in the land of plenty. What the Feminista?!

Vox Feminista, Boulder’s own radical activist theater troupe is celebrating our 20th year of rockin-the-boat performance artistry. This show commemorates a body of work that is 38 previous shows deep and wide. Our intention is a vigorous examination of what we leave behind. Part retrospective celebration and part brand new out of the box, this Vox show is all about arrival and awakening.

In an effort to treat the systems, not the symptoms, Vox has consistently challenged power, vocalizing the unspoken to defeat the lies. We are the heart of the fist, the art of social critique, an on stage army in defense of nature and culture.

This show explores a range of issues from health care to wealth care, environmental justice to confrontational queers, the Washington influence machine, the industrial food complex, plastic pollution and white privilege.

What we aim for is contagious outrage; the diagnosis is restless justice syndrome, and there ain’t no cure for what we got. Find out what lies beyond the velocity of outrage this fall.

AT NIGHT: Wagatail Presents Lo Tyde w/ DJ Harry/$7 in advance, $10 at the door

LO TYDE is truly an all star band with Mike Rempel and Chuck Morris (Lotus), DVS (The Motet/ DJ Logic) and Goodie (MFA). Their music features massive bass to get the dancefloor crazed.
